Fiona Hair

I retired two years ago having taught for over 35 years in a variety of rural and city primary schools. For the last 17 years I was in a Nursery and totally committed to the importance of early education. Our school was a Community School in a rather under privileged area and I always had great empathy for these children and their parents. We had many children with additional support needs (for a variety of reasons) who responded well with some extra care and attention. I think because of this I felt I would like to help others less fortunate than myself and hope by giving some time and personal interest that I could help them lead a more satisfying and purposeful life.

I am particularly interested in gardening and know how therapeutic this can be. Hopefully we can expand on this with our new poly tunnel at Westbank Nursery.

I am thoroughly enjoying retirement having time to follow and extend my wide variety of interests and friends.

Anne White

I am wife and a mum to 2 adult sons. Itrained as a paediatric and general nurse, and was most recently working in the community principally with young people. I am concerned with the welfare of vulnerable people and believe in the aims of Checkin to encourage self determination and personal independence.

Sarah Cox

I currently work for NSF Scotland, where I am the Carers Support Worker for Perth and Kinross, based at Murray Royal Hospital, supporting families who care for some one with a mental illness. Previously to this I worked in Dundee for the Princess Royal Trust for Carers supporting both young carers and older ones. I have also worked for Fife Council as a Safeguarder working with the Children's Reporters office. I started this work after being on Perth and Kinross Children's Panel for about 10 years.

I am married with two boys, and live near Coupar Angus.

In my spare time I like gardening, walking my dog and looking round the shops. I was delighted to be asked to become involved in the project, and believe strongly in its ethos!!

Phil Walker

I am retired and was a newspaper photographer with D C Thomson & Co Ltd of Dundee for 37 years. Liz and I have been married for 50 years and have a grown up son (Derek) and daughter Beverly and have two grandchildren (Derek's) Frankie & Max.

My interests are varied but principally photography & video filming are my main hobbies together with wildlife and hillwalking.

The reason behind my joining Checkin is that I have always been interested in people and their lives and families and feel, with my past experiences, that I can perhaps put these to good use with others less fortunate than myself giving them an opportunity to re-establish themselves in society and to enjoy a much better and fuller life.

Susan Scott

I was born in Perth in the winter of 1963 and have lived here all my life.

I enjoyed school, always being involved in some campaign or another, and went on to become a psychiatric nurse in 1984, working at Murray Royal Hospital for the next 20 odd years. Now I work for PLUS, a local mental health charity led by people who have used mental health services.

I thrive on making things happen, am very much a people person and like nothing better than having a night out with friends dancing til the wee small hours!

I intend to make good use of my high levels of motivation and creative ways of thinking on the CheckIn board.

Ruth Freeman

I have been involved with Checkin  for 2 years  was invited to be on the
Checkin Board.  The skills I bring to  Checkin include my training as a
researcher and clinician of some 30 years.  My research work at the
University of Dundee is primarily concerned with understanding the health
and psychosocial needs of people who experience social exclusion in order to
put in place initiatives to promote inclusion and employability.  It is this
expertise as well as my experience of research and clinical governance that
I bring to the Checkin Board.

Fiona Connachar

My skills and insights as CheckIn develops its services to a wider range of job seekers After working across both England and Scotland as a nurse and then a midwifery sister in a unit in Dundee I now work part-time with people who are homeless, vulnerable adults. I have significant experience of working with people who have criminal convictions, addiction issues and also with autism and learning disabilities.

I am a non judgemental individual who understands the significant hurdles faced by vulnerable adults as they try to find meaningful work experience, training and employment.

I have been attending CheckIn Board meetings now for almost a year and will be delighted to join the Board as a Trustee in the near future and hope to share.
