The value base underpinning CheckIn Works is the belief that people who want to work should be encouraged to do so and that work is an activity that enables self determination and personal independence. CheckIn, therefore, is not about merely offering chunks of work experience to an individual, it is about a complex strategy of working with unique individuals as they progress (often very slowly) towards employment activity that they have some choice in. CheckIn’s creation of a successful employment focused social enterprise (Giraffe Trading CIC) increases the chances that individuals have to enter the mainstream workplace by offering experience (both paid and unpaid) in mainstream working environments
For these reasons, the unique partnership between CheckIn and Giraffe Trading CIC has the longer term goal of establishing itself across Perth and Kinross as an effective provider offering support for employability and job retention, work experience and employment preparation.
The establishment of an employability social enterprise is in accordance with the original Perth & Kinross Consortium mission. Giraffe Trading (a separate legal entity) was established by CheckIn Works and formally incorporated as a CIC in Jan 2009. The Board of Directors of Giraffe Trading CIC comprises enthusiastic and experienced individuals from the business, care, health and education fields. |

The respective Boards of CheckIn Works and Giraffe Trading CIC have agreed that the organisations work together in partnership.
CheckIn Works and Giraffe Trading CIC recognise the mutual benefits in working together to implement innovative approaches to promoting employment support and opportunities for disadvantaged adults living in Perth and Kinross.
By promoting a partnership approach both organisations can achieve greater effectiveness in addressing the employability needs of local individuals, and in improving their economic and social opportunities.
Giraffe is rapidly developing a professional businesslike culture and structure that is providing a solid foundation for the clear challenges ahead in securing future growth and sustainability of its employment activities.
All Giraffe employment support (in partnership with CheckIn employment Buddies) focuses on offering individuals, who are furthest from the mainstream jobs market, the opportunity to receive progression support into paid work. For many individuals, full time paid work will never be an option. Nevertheless, in addition to providing support to individuals who can return to full time work (or be helped to stay in an existing job) we must promote the rights of some individuals to experience the satisfaction of receiving a wage for their labour, even when this may be only for a few hours per week/month. |
